Shah
Faisal Mosque is superbly located at the end of Shaharah-e-Islamabad,
against the backdrop of the picturesque Margalla Hills. This
beautiful mosque was designed by the Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay.
The mosque is dedicated to the memory of the late King Faisal of
Saudi Arabia who graciously financed the cost of the project as a
gift to the people of Pakistan. One of the biggest mosque in the
world, it holds about 15,000 people inside, and another 85,000 in
the courtyard. It is spread over 1,89,705-sq. meters with 88 meter
high minarets and 40 meter high main prayer hall. The majestic white
building comprises four 88m (288ft) minarets and a desert tent-like
structure, which is the main prayer chamber. The central 'tent' is
faced in white marble and decorated inside with mosaics and a huge
spectacular chandelier. |
One
of the lovely places in Islamabad is "Peer Sohawa". It is located
near the top of the Margalla Hills after crossing Daman-e-Koh. The
road for Peer Sohawa is very steep and not in so good situation so
your car must be in good condition if you are planning to go there.
This spot is located at good height so weather is nice in Summers
and in winters you may expect snow fall. From Peer Sohawa you can
easily view snow covered hills of Murree and surroundings. |
Shakar
Parian Hills are situated near Zero Point, up above the Loke Virsa
Museum & Rose & Jasmine Garden. From here you can view the twin
cities of Islamabad & Rawalpindi very clearly. Hills have two View
Points. East View Point & West View Point. The older & more visited
picnic spot is East View Point where there is a terrace surrounded
by a park with a fountain. Jinnah Stadium, Rawal Lake & neighboring
hills of Margalla and Murree can be easily viewd from here. |
Rawal
lake is another nice picnic spot. It is a large artificial water
reservoir and main water source for residents of Islamabad and
Rawalpindi. Many people visit Rawal Lake, sit there are relax. Sun
set at Rawal lake looks beautiful. The area round the lake has been
planted with flowering trees. Many picnic spots have also been
designed. There is a restaurant operated by PTDC that offers snacks.
The lake covers an area of 8.8 sq.km. Sailing, boating and fishing
facilities are available. The highest point in the garden gives
lovely view of lake, margalla n murree hills and twin cities. |
